Novelty junky

I tend to be a “new project junky” may it be at work, at home, or with travel plans. Finishing is hard and costly for me but I always have energy to imagine or start something new.

I really enjoyed this article “Novelty keeps your brain healthy” and learnt:

  • Our brain is “wired to seek out” novelty

  • Motivation, learning and reward are associated

  • Sensing novelty activates a part of our brain called SN/VTA (substantia nigra-ventral tegmental area) which stimulates the hippocampus and amygdala

  • Newness will be learned faster if there is some familiarity (not too much novelty!)

  • It also explores another Key “fun/ play” as well as use of the body (dancing) or learning to play an instrument as great Brain stimulants.

I loved reading that improv is healthy for my brain; I will keep it up!
